Preparing Your Car For Spring

Winter can take a toll on your vehicle so make sure you take care of your basic maintenance issues before they become major and expensive.  Here are a few things you can do to prepare your car for spring.

1. Check your wheel alignment:  Proper wheel alignment allows your car to handle properly.  If your vehicle is properly aligned then your vehicles tires will not ware out prematurely.  If your car pulls to one side when you let the steering wheel go then you may need an alignment.  Spending $84.95 can improve your car's handling and prevent you from having to spends hundreds of dollars later down the road.

2. Check your tire tread:  You should check your tires several times a year.  Whenever you check your tires, you should check to see if your tires are wearing evenly.  To check your tire tread, you can place a penny into the tread of each tire.  If the tread isn't covering a portion of Abe's head then you likely need new tires.

3. Make sure your battery is strong: If your battery is more than four years old and sometimes takes a moment to get your motor to start then you should take it to your local auto parts store or dealership to have it tested.

4. Top of your coolant: As the weather starts to warm up, it is important to make sure your car has plenty of coolant to cool off your motor.  Be sure to do this when your car is cool and has not been running before.  If you check your coolant while your car is running or is still warm then this can cause serious injuries.

5. Check your brakes: Make sure that your brakes have plenty of life left before going on those long summer road trips!
